The American motorcycle company, Harley-Davison, has been producing muscle heavy bikes since 1903. The Milwaukee based firm has survived the great depression and 2 world wars. Now it looks to survive the green revolution. Harley-Davidson goes electric. The company announced plans to produce a range of electric bikes that aim to give the company a fresh outlook.

Harley-Davidson announced details of its “More Roads to Harley-Davidson” growth plan through 2022. Overall, the plans are an effort by the motorcycle firm to grow the company and capitalize on growing sustainability trends.

Traditionally known for motorcycles with lots of horsepower, the rising demand for electric vehicles has caught the attention of the American company. Leveraging its industry-leading design and strong manufacturing capabilities; Harley-Davidson plans to offer a broader spectrum of bikes with different power sources and riding styles to more market around the world. The American company is setting its sights aboard with more of an electric focus.

As part of plans to capitalize on these trends, Harley Davidson, reviled some concepts designs for its all electric bikes. This pivot in strategy will incur significant development costs that the firm is fully aware of. The development of a broader range of bikes will require investment and changes to the trajectory of the business globally. The company plans to fund these plans entirely through comprehensive cost reduction and reallocation of resources.

It’s going to be interesting to see how these plans play out for Harley-Davidson. It will certainly be an exciting and fresh look for a great American company.
